WolframAlpha [1] is a inventive curiosity on the web. This site gathers all facts and figures about almost anything, and allows you to make calculations with all the data stored at WolframAlpha and present the results in a nice graphical layout.

Most importantly, it has also a Genomics & Molecular Biology section [2]. You can browse genome sequences (currently human, mouse and fruitfly), find alternative gene names, look up SNPs, look up GeneOntology categories, and let gene information be reported in a nicely organised PDF. It gathers its information of all different molecular databases.

The biggest promise it holds, is the human-readable search terms brought to genome browsing. Although not perfect at all, it will definitely be continued!

Short how-to

Just type in the field of WolframAlpha "species molecular entity gene name".
For example:
Information on human p53: "human gene p53" [3].
Information on mouse gene Efnb3: "mouse gene Efnb3" [4]
Report all SNPs known in human scnn1a gene: "scnn1a SNPs" [5]
